Lean To Carport Roof Pitch
Determine the location of the end rafter on the end post, as per pitch or outer roof height needed.
Lean to carport roof pitch. How many legs, per side, are installed on carports, garages, and barns? Bear in mind that with if you go with a higher roof pitch for either a hip roof carport or dutch gable carport, you need to allow more time for building it as the steeper the roof, the harder it is to install. I could go with a metal roof, but would rather explore asphalt as the rest of the shed is asphalt on a 7/12 roof.
Mark the rafter bottom edge location. Snow load capability and can withstand 90mph winds. It will be easier to build this in place (on top of the shed) but if you can’t, build it on the ground then put into place before adding the sheathing.
Some may say it is ugly. This “ugly” design is most often avoided by installing a low slope roof to keep the rise of the roof at a minimum. I have a newer and much fresher design for a lean to carport, so take a look here.
Afterwards, you have to build the end rafters and install them into place with 4” screws. To put it in perspective, the angle of this slope would be around 30 degrees. The 2×4 rafters should be equally spaced, therefore make sure you place them every 24” oc.
Matching the pitch of the roofs is very important. As you can notice, the slope of the roof is steep enough to drain the water efficiently. The sheet panel (ridges) will run from the high side to the low side.
Aussie made and can be installed diy or handyman. Our standard kit easy to assemble too! Contemporary houses often have ‘flat roofs’ which shouldn.
